How effective are acne skin treatments?
The psychological harm acne causes it's many sufferers should not be underestimated; treatments however, are slowly improving. It is one of those areas where research has continued to make advancements; recent medical advancements are, in fact, proving to be very effective in treating this condition. Most acne skin care products can be broken down into three main areas: Those that help prevent the condition Those available at a drugstore or over-the-counter Prescription only treatments
A lot of skin care products are used as a measure to prevent acne; these products can be anything from skin cleansers to makeup removers. Many people use products similar to this every day as part of their skin care regime; often this is irrespective of whether or not there is a problem condition. Many of these cleansers act in almost exactly the same way as acne skin care products; devised primarily to limit the amount of oil or sebum forming in the pores. These products prevent the oil from getting trapped in pores and can hamper the growth of bacteria, this can lead to the bad skin condition.
Exfoliation skin peels have proved quite effective as a skin care treatment and at controlling the problem; these can be bought easily over the counter or on the internet. The peels clean the skin by removing all surface pollution and dead skin cells which can block the pores. Many other acne skin care products have become available over the counter and on the internet; they don't usually require a prescription. These formulations contain the chemical benzoyl peroxide and the naturally occurring salicylic acid; these include creams, cleansers and peels that slow down acne formation.
Generally it is best to start using this type of product with only a small amount of benzoyl peroxide (less than 5.5 percent is recommended), just to see how the skin reacts; a safer alternative to benzoyl peroxide is anything containing alpha hydroxy acid. Because we all have different types of skin, more than one type of acne skin care product may need to be tried; if nothing you use is effective then speak to your dermatologist for advice. On-prescription treatments are prescribed by a dermatologist and can include ointments that can be applied on the affected area or oral antibiotics or just any topical ointment.
Your doctor can recommend that in order to extract the contents of the pustules that a small surgical procedure could be carried out; although this is a minor procedure, if it were performed by the person themselves it could result in skin damage. Your doctor may even suggest a course of hormone therapy as a skin care treatment; studies show that hormone based skin care treatments often prove effective. Science has produced many effective treatments for this unkind condition.
