Vitamins for Psoriasis May be Effective as They Nourish the Skin

Psoriasis is a common skin disorder, often inherited which comes about as a result of an accelerated production rate of skin cells that causes raised patches of pink, thick new skin that has flakes of dead skin covering it. There is, as yet, no known medical explanation regarding psoriasis or its causes. Applying cortisone based products seems to be the only way that doctors can treat this skin disorder.

Vitamin a Makes New Skin and Counteracts Inflammation

Such cortisone based products will help relieve symptoms, but side effects can cause skin to become damaged as well as cause the patient to have a lifelong dependence on cortisone. On the other hand, vitamin A for psoriasis is safe to use as it plays an important role in making new skin as well as mucous membranes. Vitamin for psoriasis is effective since it prevents infections in mucous membranes, nourishes the skin and counteracts inflammations while also protecting cell membranes and other structures inside the cells from free radicals.

Vitamin A for psoriasis is useful to prevent skin disorders from occurring and is naturally found in liver, fish oils and egg yolk. An adult should ideally take 2.500-5000 IE and if there is excess of vitamin A, it will be stored in the liver, and is usually produced synthetically. The benefits of Vitamin A for psoriasis are seen in increased blood flow, stimulation of the skin as well as providing protection from sunburn.

Nevertheless, taking vitamin supplements for psoriasis are not known to improve psoriasis when taken in daily recommended doses. Also, taking large doses of vitamin D for psoriasis has not been found to be effective and may even be dangerous. One should take the advice of a doctor prior to trying vitamins for psoriasis, especially as there are many vitamins and natural supplements that are not safe (even dangerous) when consumed in large and continuous doses.

Other than vitamins for psoriasis, many people even try out alternative approaches to treating psoriasis including sun and water therapy. It has been found that sunlight and water are natural therapies that may help improve psoriasis. It has even been found that as many as eighty percent of those that have tried regular daily doses of sunlight have found noticeable improvement in their psoriasis condition.

There is also not much scientific research conducted on psoriasis. There are different views expressed on the effects of particular diets including vitamins for psoriasis that can help establish and provide a clear and definitive solution to the problem.
