Microdermabrasion Creams
One can hardly write about skin care without making mention of today's most popular skin care treatment which is known as microdermabrasion. So well known is the term that it would appear that virtually every new skin care cream coming onto the market seems to be some kind of "microdermabrasion cream". However we feel that such a description is wrong and should not be allowed for two very simple reasons.
1. Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive skin care treatment which uses a very specific technique and as such a skin care cream alone would not be able to replicate such a treatment.
2. By calling virtually every skin care cream that contains an abrasive a "microdermabrasion" cream it belittles the actual professional treatment which is actually capable of far more impressive results than an cream on the market.
To understand why we feel so strongly about this you really need to understand some of the many unique facts about this amazing technique. Firstly the processes involved require a very special type of machine and, although there is one home machine costing less than $200, the professional microdermabrasion machines cost several thousand pounds. Considering this fact alone should make you wonder how a $10 cream could offer this treatment.
Microdermabrasion is derived from the far more aggressive treatment known as Dermabrasion. Micro-Dermabrasion only removes the very top layers of skin which mainly consist of dead and dying skin cells whereas (Dermabrasion removes far more skin). The dead cells are removed by the action of the machine which blasts fine clinical grade crystals onto the surface of the skin by means of a strong jet of air. These crystals are highly abrasive but through careful application and the measured control of the machine the correct amount of exfoliation occurs.
Immediately following a microdermabrasion treatment the skin is often slightly reddened or appears very pink and somewhat shiny. This happens because the removal of the dead cells exposes the new skin underneath. After only a few minutes the redness reduces to leave a healthy glow. I suppose you could say that this treatment speeds up nature. However in doing so this treatment leads to a number of important benefits.
Most noticeable is the youthful looking skin that is exposed. The number of open pores is vastly reduced and, therefore, the likelihood of blackheads and whiteheads forming is massively reduced. It is because of this that microdermabrasion is often referred to as a miracle cure for acne. Unfortunately the treatment should never, under any circumstances be performed upon active acne, rather, by conditioning the areas of skin around a breakout the instances of new pimples is drastically reduced. Although, if you want to be technically correct, microdermabrasion does not actually cure acne it does help in stopping it from forming in the first place thus leading to the illusion of healing the skin. Of course the important thing to the person suffering from an acne outbreak is that it is a clinically proven method of combating it which is excellent news.
Now, if we tried to gain the same results against acne using only a "microdermabrasion cream" we would soon find ourselves in something of a mess as such creams could make the problem considerably worse.
There are a great many other areas where the cream is nowhere near as effective as the professional skin care treatment. No matter how great a cream is it simply cannot compete. Not only is the treatment great for acne but it can also remove mild acne scars and greatly diminish the visibility of deeper scarring. It is extremely effective at removing spider lines, fine lines and fine wrinkles, it can also remove other skin blemishes and even be effective at reducing freckles. For the life of me I can not think of any skin care cream that is capable of such miraculous results.
So why do these skin care companies insist on using the term to describe their latest product? Plain and simple they use the term microdermabrasion to take advantage of the fantastic reputation that this skin care treatment has and is so doing they are attempting to make their products sound more effective.
